We learnt a rather grim fact on our last trip to Severndroog, in the 17th Century, bodies of hanged rotting highwaymen were displayed along Shooters Hill to deter others…. Argh! Join the gang at Severndroog for creepy cocktail and cakes, spooky tales and enjoy the moonlit view whilst helping to raise money for this wonderful gothic-style castle. Tickets are £27 and can be purchased from here
2. Dead poets society and Cenotaph South at the gloriously spooky, Nunhead Cemetery.
"On the eve of Halloween, join literary investigator Chris McCabe to uncover the stories of the lost poets of Nunhead Cemetery and explore the poetic mythology of south London - from Browning and Blake to Barry MacSweeney. Chris will read from his new book Cenotaph South in the semi-ruined Anglican chapel, Nunhead Cemetery, followed by drinks in a local pub. Special edition copies of Cenotaph South will be available to purchase. Dress warmly. It’s free but let the team know as they have limited capacity." Email: info@pennedinthemargins.co.uk. 3. Shiver m’ Timbers, Queen Mary Undercroft Bar, Old Royal Naval College
Delve into regions dark and unexplored beneath the Old Royal Naval College in their spooky interactive theatre experience.
"Beneath Christopher Wren's enlightened buildings, tunnels and dungeons from older constructions still remain, haunted by the ghouls of ancient admirals and drowned mariners. Be prepared for chilling encounters as you go on an expedition into this labyrinth. Help to ward away the spirits of scurvy sailors, Victorian mourners, and ancient servants lingering amongst the foundations of the old Tudor palace. Listen to characters' deeds of mischief-making, mud larking, misery and murder. After these harrowing events, share your ghostly experiences as you enjoy a complimentary cocktail in the Queen Mary Bar. Halloween costume encouraged!"
