9 Best Walks and Walking Routes in London
Looking for the best walks in London? We’ve been working hard with Transport for London, to bring the entire Walk London network to Go Jauntly, which is full of some of the top London walking routes for you to try. Here are our favourites.
Green Chain
Spread across 50 miles, the Green Chain walk is the perfect opportunity to explore South East London’s greenest places. There’s dozens of woodlands and parks along the way, with highlights including Severndroog Castle nestled in the ancient Oxleas Woods, the Horniman Museum and Gardens, the Crystal Palace dinosaurs and bird watching at Southmere.
London Nature Trails
Escape into nature, with not one, but four London nature trails. From Burnt Oak to Wembley in north London, Bermondsey to Brockley in the south, Wanstead to Royal Docks in east London and Swiss Cottage and King’s Cross in central. These four routes connect natural spaces within some of London’s most built up areas.
Lea Valley
Nature, great views and industrial heritage, the Lea Valley trail from Waltham Abbey to the Thames at Limehouse Valley, has it all. Follow the Lee Navigation towpath as you pass Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Walthamstow Marshes Nature Reserve and Three Mills. Great views of the O2 and Canary Wharf en-route too.
London Loop
150 miles. 24 sections. Take the challenge and walk the London Outer Orbital Path. This epic walking route encircles Greater London. It’s one of the greatest walking routes in London.
TFL20 Heritage Trail
Transport for London turned 20 back in 2020, so to celebrate we created the TFL20 Heritage Trail. This route from St James’s Park to Southwark Station, passes many sites that impact the way Londoners get around the city each and every day. Learn about the history and design of Westminster Station, how river transport was revitalised and spot a vintage Embankment taxi shelter. Pressed for time? Capital Ring
At 78 miles the Capital Ring is a corker, but we’ve divided this route into 15 manageable sections. Between Woolwich and Becton District Park, you’ll pass historic buildings, nature reserves, Sites of Specific Scientific Interest and parks. Eltham Palace, Richmond Park, Hackney Marshes and Wimbledon Park are some of the highlights on this walking trail
Jubilee Greenway
The Jubilee Greenway is a great way to explore London. Created to mark Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee and the London 2012 Games. These routes link the Olympic and Paralympic Games venues including the O2 Arena, Greenwich Park and the Serpentine.
Jubilee Walkway
Visit London’s most iconic landmarks on the Jubilee Walkway. On this 15 mile stretch, broken down into five tourist-friendly sections, you’ll find yourself strolling past St Paul’s, Buckingham Palace, Sir John Soane’s Museum and Tower Bridge.
Thames Path
Enjoy this 40-mile stretch along the Northbank and Southbank of the River Thames. From the historic Hampton Court Palace, through the heart of London to East India Dock. The Thames Path is river walking at its best.
