Enjoy Brand New FREE Walking Routes in and around the City of Lincoln with Go Jauntly

Go Jauntly, an award-winning walking and wayfinding app are pleased to announce some brand new, FREE walks in and around the city of Lincoln which were created in partnership with Access Lincoln.

The walks take in the city's great landmarks including Lincoln Cathedral, an example of English Gothic architecture and the tallest building in the world for over 200 years as well as the 11th-century, Norman Lincoln Castle. You can also enjoy nature walks along the River Witham, Brayford Loop and the Sincil Dike as well as pub walks or a visit to the West Common where you will find horses grazing. And don’t forget the hidden gem that is Boultham Mere Nature Reserve, which is walking distance from the city centre.

Whilst you’re on these lovely self-guided walking routes, do look out for the mute swan, a rather iconic species for Lincoln (many pairs of swans nest each year beside the Brayford Pool) and other bird life to spot includes peregrine falcons, tawny owls and the common kingfisher.

Here is some more information on a few of our favourite routes, or check out the full list below.

Lincoln's Historic Centre
2hrs - Explore the major historic sites of Lincoln on this jaunt including the castle, the cathedral, and more! This particular walk involves a steep climb but it is worth it to get your heart rate up and to enjoy the city's great landmarks such as the Lincoln Guildhall, Lincoln Castle, the Crown Courts as well as the Cathedral. Visit some lovely independent shops to catch your breath from Steep Hill.

River Witham and West Common Wander
1hr 30mins - A stroll along the River Witham starting at Lincoln Central and ending at The Pyewipe Inn. Need an idea for the weekend or fancy a pub lunch? This route is for you. It’s very peaceful, there is a great sense of space and the sunsets along the River Witham can be spectacular. From West Common, there are excellent views of the Cathedral and the historic hilltop. Look out for skylark and horses which can be found grazing across this whole area, a site dating back to the 11th century and the medieval era's common grazing rights.

Birding in Boultham Mere
1 hr - A walk around the hidden nature reserve, Boultham Mere which is open at all times although it is not accessible for wheelchairs or prams. Discover wildlife including birds, butterflies, dragonflies and damselflies. It’s super tranquil and there are peaceful views from inside a secret bird hide.

Follow the self-guided route which tracks alongside the drain. You have to cross over the gated railway crossing and another crossing point at a sluice over the drain, extra care should be taken. This leads to the south-western bank of the secluded sanctuary where you reach a bird hide and attractive lake. Please note that this walk is not accessible for wheelchair users.

Try one of these amazing routes this weekend!
