Treefest: Help us understand the joy of trees through taking a walk

The UK is set to plant millions of trees to help with the climate and biodiversity crisis. By taking part in Treefest you can help influence what trees are planted where. Treefest in the National Forest is a connected treescapes research study, in collaboration with the University of Derby, UK Treescapes and Go Jauntly.

How to take part in our Treefest research walks

  1. Download the app & sign-up

  2. Find the Treefest collection

  3. Choose one of eight research walks to participate in the National Forest

  4. Answer a few simple questions before and after your walk

  5. Relax and enjoy the after-glow of walking in woodlands

The first 400 adults to complete a Treefest research walk and answer all the survey questions in-app will be eligible for a £20 Amazon voucher. Verified walks only, T&Cs apply. Vouchers will be issued in batches before 30/11/23. Full terms and conditions can be found here – where we’ll also aim to periodically update the number of walks completed. The end of the data collection period from the University of Derby will be 30/10/2023.

What is the Connected treescapes project?

Connected treescapes is one of the first sets of Future of the UK Treescapes projects to receive research funding. The £10 million Future of the UK Treescapes research programme was established to inform the planting of these future treescapes. The University of Derby, in a consortium led by York University, won funding for the ‘Connected Treescapes‘ project which will explore:

  • The history of our present-day treescapes.

  • How those treescapes affect three key benefits - biodiversity and nature recovery, culture and heritage, and health and wellbeing.

  • How can we maximize the multiple benefits from treescapes.

How will my input help?

We need as many people to walk the routes as possible. Your data, and that from the rest of the project, will help to create tools and knowledge to inform the design of future treescapes for the benefit of future generations and the rest of the natural world. This data will also help to show How people value trees and how treescapes affect well-being and pro-nature behaviours and our relationship with nature. The more research we capture, the better.

Our work with the University of Derby and National Forest is just one part of the wider Connected Treescapes study, but rest assured that any research publications arising from this project will only describe average trends, it will never refer to the answers of an individual
